Chukhur Gabala - In ancient times, here was the capital of the ancient state of Caucasian Albania - Kabala (from about III century BC - V century AD), the city was a major trade and craft center of Albania. Here was the residence of the kings, and after the adoption of Christianity in the IV. AD was the main religious center of the country. Due to the constant attacks of the Khazars from the north, the Albanian kings decided to move the center to a more remote and safe place and from the 5th century onwards, AD Barda becomes such a center.
After the conquest of Albania by the Arab Caliphate, the process of Islamization is actively underway here. If from the second half of the 2nd millennium the city was already Muslim, then a large percentage of the Christian population still remained in the districts.
