That building, which can be seen now, was built in the 17-18 centuries by the Hindu community of the Sikh caste. But the history of the temple is much older. Long before that, there was an ancient sanctuary of Zoroastrians, who provided fire with special, mystical properties and came to worship the shrine. After Azerbaijan was conquered by the Arabs and the local people converted to Islam, the church was destroyed by the authorities, and many fire worshipers were forced to leave and go to India. But in the 15th and 17th centuries, with the caravans of traders, the Hindu fire worshipers came here again, who began to make pilgrimage to the site of the ancient sanctuary. He took his name from the name of the Saka tribe, who lived on these lands in ancient times. The words "Sheki" formed from "Saka" - "Shaka". Gradually, this word was transformed into Shaka - Sheka - Shaki and finally Sheki. In 1772, the Kish River flooded as a result of a heavy rainfall, and the city was completely destroyed. For this reason, from the second half of the 18th century, Nukha began to be called. The newspaper "Kavkaz" spread the information about this cataclysm in its issue on July 15, 1846: "... the culprit of the terrible flood the Kish River turned Sheki into ruins, dared all her houses to the ground ...Excursion to the palace of Sheki Khans. In Sheki, many historical monuments have been preserved. And the Palace of Sheki Khans is especially beautiful among them. It was built in 1761-62 as the summer residence of Hussein Khan Mushtad, who was the grandson of Haji Celebi.
Inimitable in its beauty, the two-story building of the palace stuns with the splendor of its decoration, both external and internal. The facade of the palace is richly decorated with plot drawings depicting scenes of hunting and war, as well as intricate geometric and floral patterns. In the center there is a huge window-stained glass window made of colorful glass mosaic. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that each square meter of Shebeke consists of 5000 parts connected without nails. Other small windows of the palace also collected their pieces of colored glass and taken away by openwork stone gratings.
